What we do
We are on a mission to improve food security in water-scarce environments without harming our planet or compromising the quality of food produced. Through the use of aquaponic systems, we are able to limit water use, repurpose waste while simulating natural environmental factors that fish need to thrive. Keep reading to learn the resourcefulness of aquaponics below ⬎
What is aquaponics?
Aquaponics combines hydroponic farming (growing crops without soil) techniques with the farming of fish, shellfish or other seafood. By combining these practices, an ecosystem is formed in which they mutually support one another. The results are reduced waste, improved use of resources, tasty crops and happy fish.
What plants can grow?
Aquaponics is amazing in that the majority of crops will happily grow in the system and often at a faster rate. Vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruits- the ecosystem can be adjusted to suit each crops needs. Popular crop choices are tomatoes, lettuces, strawberries and peppers.
What are the benefits of eating seafood?
Seafood is a great source of lean protein and provides essential nutrients to keep you healthy, such as:
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids that lower your cholesterol, blood pressure and risk of stroke and heart failure
- Selenium that helps prevent cancer and protects your cells from DNA damage
- Niacin (B-3) that keeps your nervous system, digestive system and skin healthy
- B-12 that nourishes your brain, nervous system and red blood cells
